What is Novus Digital Phone?
Novus Digital Phone is a residential telephone service that works just like a traditional telephone service except it utilizes Novus' IP ("Internet Protocol") network to transmit phone calls.
It is an affordable, smart, and convenient option to your traditional home phone service offering competitively priced home phone service packages and long distance rates - packages include 11 commonly used calling features.
Can Novus Digital Phone replace my existing residential phone service?
Yes, Novus Digital Phone is a full-featured residential phone service, offering 11 convenient calling features such as call waiting and voicemail, enhanced 911, 411, 0 (Operator Assistance) as well as tech support 7 days a week.
How is your phone service different than other phone service providers?
Novus Digital Phone is an IP based, packet switched service that runs on Novus' dedicated Fiber Optic network. Novus employs QoS ("Quality of Service") technology to give top priority to the voice packets prior to interconnecting directly to the PSTN ("Public Switched Telephone Network").
Unlike some service providers, Novus voice packets never leave Novus' network prior to interconnecting to the PSTN.
Traditional phone providers use circuit switched technology to transmit calls over a fixed wire service.
This system has an expensive delivery method due to the infrastructure required to transmit a phone call on a continuous circuit from point to point; therefore, the cost of maintaining this service is reflected in higher rates charged to the consumer.
How do your prices compare to other phone service providers? Are you cheaper?
Our packages start as low as $21.95/month, which is amongst the most competitive in the marketplace.
We include 11 call features at no additional charge - other service providers charge for some or all of their call features.
Our per minute rates are half of what other local phone service providers charge and you are not required to lock into a contract that requires a "break fee" if you decide to leave.
Also, we do not charge a monthly access fee.
Do I get 411 service?
Yes, you get 411 service, which is $0.75 per call - the same as what other providers charge.
Do I get 911 service?
Yes, Enhanced 911 service is included and based on the location where your Novus Digital Phone is active.
Are 1-900 calls covered by this service?
No, 1-900 numbers cannot be made from Novus Digital Phone.
Do I have access to Operator Assistance ("0")?
Yes, Operator Assistance is available for $1.95/min if you require assistance in finding an overseas number.
Can I accept collect calls?
No, the Novus Digital Phone does not accept collect calls. Collect calls are one of the most expensive forms of long-distance calling today.
Because of this, we have decided not to offer this service in order to pass the savings onto our customers.
Does Novus offer calling cards for long-distance calls?
No, currently Novus does not offer calling cards; however, you can use calling cards from other service providers just as you would with a traditional telephone service.
Do you offer phone service for businesses?

Installation & How The Phone Works
What kind of equipment is required to use Novus Digital Phone?
The only equipment you need to receive Novus Digital Phone service is a regular phone (corded/cordless) and we provide you with an adapter that gives you access to our phone service on our network.
How much does it cost to have Novus Digital Phone installed?
Installation is free of charge as is with all of our services.
We provide flexible installation times, including evening and weekend appointments.
Does installation interfere with interphones or alarms?
Novus Digital Phone works just like a traditional phone service and is designed to be fully compatible home security systems that are not monitored.
Will my telephone service work if there is no power?
No, the Nov Digital Phone (as well as any cordless telephone with a different phone service provider) will not work during a power outage as they both require power to operate.
How will the phone impact my Internet service?
It won't. Our system prioritizes voice traffic so you are sure to get optimum voice and sound quality.
Our Internet service is superior to others as it is delivered via our own private dedicated fiber optic network.
Will I be able to use my computer while making a phone call?
Yes, you will be able to use your computer while making phone calls.
Your computer does not need to be turned on or off, but your broadband connection must be active in order for the phone to function properly.
Also, Quality of Service (QoS) ensures that voice traffic is given priority over other traffic such as web surfing and downloading so that your calls remain uninterrupted.
Does Novus Digital Phone support faxes?
At this time, Novus Digital Phone does not support faxes.
How does the phone work with wireless Internet?
The phone adapter does not wirelessly connect to your wireless ("WiFi") router.
Instead, you connect your Internet connection to the phone adapter and then the phone adapter to your wireless ("WiFi") router.
You would also connect your phone (corded or cordless) to the phone adapter.
Can I use the phone on more than one outlet?
Yes, provided that you have asked Novus to set up phone service that way. It can be set up for a single phone, or all existing phone outlets in your suite.
Number Portability
Does Novus Digital Phone support number portability and how does it work?
Number portability allows you to keep your existing phone number even though you have switched to Novus Digital Phone.
Because number porting can take 4 weeks, you may want to keep your phone service from your current service provider until your phone number has been ported.
While your waiting for your telephone number to be ported, we can set up your service in such a fashion that incoming calls will be on your existing phone number from your existing service provider, while outgoing calls will be on the Novus Digital Phone service using a temporary number.
That way people who are trying to reach you on the number that is being ported will still be able to, and you can use your Novus Digital Phone to take advantage of low long distance rates.
Once the number has been ported, you will experience no service interruptions, all incoming and outgoing calls will be on the Novus Digital Phone service using the ported number, and your previous service provider will no longer bill you for service.
Can I keep my number and port it?
Yes, in most cases any number (except mobile numbers) in the local calling zone can be ported.
To see if your number can be ported, call Novus Customer Support at 604-642-6688.

Can I publish my number in the phone directory?
Yes, if it is in the local calling area where we provide service it will be published in the local print and online phone directories such as the White Pages and Can Pages.
Can I get an unlisted or unpublished number?
Yes, you can request a non-listed or non-published number at no extra charge. Non-listed numbers are not javascript:showHiden in the phone/online directory, but are available through directory assistance (411) inquiries. Non-published numbers are not javascript:showHiden in the phone/online directory and are not available through directory assistance. If you have a non-published number, your name will not javascript:showHide up on call display.

Troubleshooting
I do not hear a dial tone when I pick up my phone?
- Check your computer to ensure your Internet is functioning properly (i.e. do you get a web page?).
- Check all the physical connections: telephone plugs (on the phone and on the adapter), power cables (on the phone adapter, cordless phone, and/or wireless router).
- Make sure the phone is connected to the "Phone" port on the adapter.
- Restart your phone adapter and router.
How do I restart my phone adapter and wireless router?
- Unplug the power cord on your phone adapter and your router and leave it unplugged for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power back and give it another 30 seconds.
- Check to see if all of your devices are back to normal. If not call Novus Technical Support at 604-642-6688.
My phone is connected straight to the wall outlet without a router and I have a dial tone but I cannot dial out?
- One reason for this could be because your phone adapter is not registered on the Novus Network.
- In order to register the device on the Novus network, plug in a computer to the Ethernet port on the phone adapter.
Once you plug in your computer you will have to open up your browser (Internet Explorer/Firefox), which will redirect you to the Novus Registration page where you will be asked to register the device.
- Once you have registered your device, check to see if the phone works. If it still doesn't work, call Novus Technical Support at 604-642-6688.
